Sri Lanka seeks investors for traffic management system

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s government is working with Korea’s aid agency to select investors for an advanced traffic management system in the capital Colombo which is facing increasing congestion, an aid official said.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has helped develop an advanced traffic management system in Colombo and train staff through a technical assistance program, said Lee Dong Ku, resident representative of KOICA’s Sri Lanka office.

Korean aid for modernising transportation is a key part of KOICA’s country partnership strategy with Si Lanka, he told a news conference.

“The project for ATMS – advanced traffic management system – in Colombo was over in 2017. This year we are dealing with investors to set up the system,”  Lee Dong Ku said.

KOICA’s Deputy Country Director Chon Gyongshik said detailed designs for the management system and advanced sign system were developed with Korean support, along with a master plan.
