Fresh moves to draw Japanese investment

Sri Lankan conglomerate, Sunshine Holdings, has entered an agreement with a subsidy of Singaporean SBI Ven Holdings to set-up a liaison office in Colombo, to encourage higher Japanese investments in the country.
Sunshine Holdings told the Colombo Stock Exchange that the firm would invest Rs 9 million, 20 per cent of the total investment, to set up an SBI Holdings liaisons office in Sri Lanka.

According to the Stock Exchange filing, the purpose of the liaisons office in Sri Lanka is to entice more Japanese Investments to enter the country by being a one-stop shop for advisory purposes.

Singapore-based SBI Ven Holdings is a subsidiary of SBI Holdings, led by veteran investment banker Viraj Malawana.
According to the stock exchange filing, the joint venture has been incorporated as Strategic Business Innovators (Pvt) Ltd.
SBI Holdings is a key player in Japan’s securities industry and shows keen interest in the country’s financial services sector.
