Brisbane Airport to Become the First-Ever Cryptocurrency Airport

Brisbane Airport is all set to become the first ever airport in the world which will accept cryptocurrencies! Reports from Australian media outlets state that the Brisbane Airport (BNE) is working with many national and international cryptocurrency firms to help make the entire airport cryptocurrency friendly. Not only does this include booking tickets using cryptocurrencies, but also getting the stores to accept this form of digital payment!

The stores, coffee shops and restaurants at the Brisbane Airport are soon expected to support payments in Dash, Bitcoin and Ether. As the number of people who have been investing in cryptocurrencies increase with time, Brisbane Airport’s decision is quite progressive. According to Roel Hellemons, the General Manager of Strategic Planning and Development:

“Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals.”

One of the biggest partners that the Australian airport is teaming up with is that of TravelbyBit. The aforementioned company is a cryptocurrency payment system which will allow the users to make quick and easy payments using their cryptocurrencies.

This move from the Brisbane Airport is an interesting one as it takes us another step forward towards solving one of the biggest problems that cryptocurrencies face at this stage – a use case! While many consider Bitcoins and other similar currencies as a viable investment opportunity – the use case for cryptocurrencies is limited, albeit rising.

Australia has been one of the few countries which have been quite open about adapting cryptocurrency based payment methods. Unlike nations such as China and South Korea which tend to be hostile from time to time, Australia has proven to be a strong supporter of this gen-next form of payments technology. The Brisbane Airport is all set to attract many cryptocurrency investors from the land down under!
